5 Ups & 4 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 41 - Night 2 (Results & Review)

2. What Was The Point?

When The Rock showed up at Elimination Chamber and facilitated John Cena’s heel turn, the immediate reaction was that WWE could have an absolutely electric pairing with two of the company’s biggest stars ever teaming up to disrupt things.

What ended up happening was Rock disappeared from WWE entirely and Cena cut a series of lifeless promos to build his match against Cody Rhodes. But surely, Rocky would return at WrestleMania to make sense of all of this foolishness and reveal the master plan, right? RIGHT?

Wrong. It was Travis Scott, who looked scrawny by comparison to Cody and Cena, who provided the “big run-in” at the climax of Sunday’s main event, ultimately eating a Cross-Rhodes and providing a distraction allowing Cena to cheat to win his 17th world championship. Anyone looking for answers found none.

Ultimately, it looks more and more like Rock basically showed up like a human tornado, tore up plans, jumbled everything and left WWE to pick up the pieces. You could remove Rock from the entire story and things would have worked the same, just without the questions. Maybe it was a no-win scenario and you can’t fault WWE if Rock insisted on it, but that doesn’t absolve the company from a major plot hole.
