5 Ups & 5 Downs For WWE Raw (11 Aug - Results & Review)
2. DQ City
Another week of Monday Night Raw, another lengthy main event ends in a disqualification. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Pop quiz: When was the last Raw main event that didn’t end in a disqualification or no contest (not counting no-DQ matches)?
You have to go all the way back to the 7 July edition of Raw, when Seth Rollins beat Penta. (The gauntlet match the following week was a no-DQ match.) Since then, we’ve had four straight Raw main events end without a pinfall or submission, three of which went about 15 minutes or longer. Monday’s tag match between The Vision and CM Punk and LA Knight was just the latest in that stretch.
It was impossible to really get into the match, knowing something was going to happen and it wouldn’t go to a finish. Instead, fans just had to count down until the eventual interference from Rollins, because the outcome of the match was inconsequential.
While fans initially were comparing Rollins’ stable to Evolution, it’s quickly becoming like the nWo (minus the cool T-shirts and ever-growing ranks), with their big spotlight matches ending in shmozzes.
