5 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Dynamite: Homecoming (4 Aug)

5. Hirsch vs. Bunny Struggles For Heat

Kamille Leyla Hirsch
AEW

Leyla Hirsch and The Bunny meshed well last night, delivering a crisp match that began with Hirsch working the arm - a detail that paid off in the finish. Leyla went back to the limb with her cross armbreaker, dragging Bunny through deep waters and transitioning her onto her stomach when it looked like she was about to escape, scoring the win. Impressive technicality, good psychology.

NWA Women's Champion Kamille hopped the barricade for a face-off afterwards. The height discrepancy created an incredible visual ahead of NWA Empowerrr, where the match goes down.

It's unfortunate, then, that for all the good in this match, none of it got over. Homecoming was never quieter than during Hirsch vs. The Bunny, likely because while Bunny has been on television most weeks lately, Hirsch is largely restricted to Dark and Dark: Elevation. AEW put her into this match cold and the result was a lifeless viewing experience marred further by constant shots to the outside, where Best Friends, Hardy Family Office, and Nyla Rose were gathered.
