5 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Dynamite: Homecoming (4 Aug)

Ups...

5. Solid, Solid Christian

Christian Cage
AEW

Christian Cage's in-ring floor is perhaps higher than anyone else in AEW. 47 years old he may be, but viewers can rely on the veteran to deliver a smart, well-formed match without stretching beyond any physical limitations every time out. His mind appears to be sharper than ever and while he isn't out there working blowaway pop fests every week, he is killing his current role.

Last night produced another well-put-together Christian match. He faced The Blade, who had cracked him with brass knuckles last week, and with Leyla Hirsch emerging to take The Bunny away from ringside, the wrestlers got to show their work without distractions.

An exchange of near-falls led to frustration growing within Blade, who tore off a turnbuckle pad to grab his hidden brass knuckles. Christian recovered, however, spearing the heel and putting him down for the count.

Confirmed as Kenny Omega's next AEW World Title contender afterwards, Cage confirmed he'll be at next week's episode of Rampage in Pittsburgh, looking to "stir up a little sh*t." Perhaps he'll now emerge as Kenny's All Out opponent? Either way, this is something AEW has been building to since Christian walked in.
