5 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling (26 Jan)
Ups...
5. The American Wolf
Remember when Sami Callihan first demolished Eddie Edwards' eye with his baseball bat, turning Eddie into his current sadistic persona? The immediate aftermath of that was some of Eddie's greatest work. That he seems to be reverting back to that spring 2018 time period is seriously amazing.
Facing Brian Myers last night, the former two-time World Champion wrestled fairly normally for the duration of the contest. All the usual spots here - the suicide dive, the backpack stunner, the whole nine yards. As the match neared its conclusion, though, Eddie proceeded to viciously rake the eyes of 'The Most Professional Wrestler', before biting his eye, and leaving Myers a bloody mess. Eddie didn't even bat an eyelid after his heinous actions; he was overjoyed.
While this may simply be a story continuation of Myers claiming his eye was severely hurt by Fallah Bahh's accidental eye poke last week, we should be optimistic. Edwards could very well be going back down that dark route that led him to where he is today. Having always been a babyface throughout his Impact career (a tweener at a push on occasion), a heel turn could quite easily change Eddie's career for the best. That's the vibe that was given off here, anyway.
A minor Down, by the way, for Matt Striker referencing Myers' daughters Madison and McKenzie after 'The Prince of Queens' was struck by an inverted 1atomic drop. Terrible line there.
