2. Bad Build, Good Execution

There is no gentle way to say this: Joe Gacy and Dijak are just ridiculously bad, cartoonish characters. If they were any more of a couple of scene-chewing, over-the-top caricatures, they would be winking at the camera to let the audience in on the joke.

However, Gacy and Dijak in the ring, more specifically in an asylum match, were actually really entertaining… if you knew what you were getting. Given the manic, bizarre Gacy and the 80s-era vigilante Dijak, there was no way to take their blowoff match as a serious blood feud.

Their plunder brawl worked well though because both men are very good workers who know how to actually work a match. They employed everything at their disposal – a chair, a door, a table, a fire extinguisher, duct tape and a straight jacket – to try to incapacitate the other. There was the obvious bad comedy spot with a box marked “Do not open” that Dijak slid open, only to have a boxing glove spring up and hit him in the groin. Hilarity ensued.

It also featured Dijak hitting a moonsault off the cage and Gacy nailing a senton while wearing a straight jacket. While nothing resembling what critics would call a “good” match, it was never dull, and it looked to have blown off the feud, so that’s enough to merit an “up” here.
