5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE NXT: Roadblock (Results & Review - 5 Mar)

Shawn Spears’ return to NXT last week was certainly a shock, as he waffled Ridge Holland with a steel chair. It left questions about why he came back and why he was targeting Ridge.

But if there’s an opening to talk, that just means it’s a chance for the writers to crack open their thesaurus and go to town.

After squashing a jobber, Spears spoke about how it “takes a certain kind of man to hold a mirror up to humanity” because most won’t like what they see. He called people hypocrites and then mocked Ridge for saying he fights for his family, saying he was “lying to yourself.”

When Holland came out though, Spears dropped his chair and allowed Ridge to pummel him, even sliding the chair to him and daring him to prove Shawn right by battering him. However, the referees saved him.

So… what’s the story here? Ridge is supposed to be a dangerous person who hurts those he’s in the ring with, which is literally the job of a professional wrestler. And Spears is targeting him because… he’s a liar? Is the strategy to get Holland to admit he’s really a villain? And then what? He and Spears team up? Shawn goes on to get more confessions out of other superstars?

It’s a very strange vibe, and not the kind where you are curious enough to breathlessly wait to see the next development.
