5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE NXT: Roadblock (Results & Review - 5 Mar)
1. No Quarter, No Excitement
Sorry to any fans of British wrestling, but hearing the No Quarter Catch Crew drone on about the significance of a trophy that mid-carders fight over in matches with strange rules is not winning support.
Tuesday’s in-ring promo wasn’t helped by four bland dudes just repeating themselves and talking about “heritage” but not naming any heroes or being able to point to classic moments. At least when WWE talks about the Intercontnential Championship, there are plenty of memorable champions and title matches to cite. Has there ever been a Heritage Cup Championship match that could be defined as “classic”?
Sadly for the crew, William Regal’s appearance – and the tongue-in-cheek acknowledgement that Charlie Dempsey is in fact his son – didn’t elevate the segment. Regal simply repeated everything Drew Gulak, Damon Kemp and Dempsey said, before saying he’d be watching.
Sure, for devotees sopping up every bit of what NXT offers, Regal being back on camera might have been a welcome sight. But it was about as flat and drab as humanly possible.
