5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (20 May - Results & Review)
2. Gunther Chops Way To Finals
Jey Uso versus Gunther could be defined as a clash of styles, but as the old saying goes, styles make fights, and Raw’s main event was a hell of a fight.
Gunther chopped away at Jey, then targeted his right arm for the duration of the match, reducing it to jelly and rendering it useless for Uso. This forced Jey to change up his offense, using his left hand and arm to strike and going for home run swings whenever an opening popped up. Considering that he was in peril just moments into the match, Jey had to ditch a lot of his crowd-pleasing taunts and stay in survival mode, giving the bout a different feel from a typical Uso match – in the best possible way.
That’s not to say that Jey should become a purely serious wrestler, but it was commendable to see him focus on the task at hand and not step out of the moment to “yeet” at the fans. The crowd rallied to him nonetheless because they were already behind him and wanted him to overcome the struggle.
Gunther winning was the right call, but it will be interesting to see where Jey goes from here, as he comes up short again in a high-profile match.
