Raw’s main event was less about the match itself – which was unshockingly solid, given the wrestlers involved – and more about future matchups. And in both situations, it was a success.

Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn needed a win heading into Night of Champions against Roman Reigns & Solo Sikoa after losing last week to Judgment Day. They got it. They also need to have a potential challenger after NOC. They got that in Imperium, who lost Monday night but gave the champs everything they could handle.

Gunther is going to need a new challenger after the PLE. He was pummeled throughout the match by Matt Riddle, whose offensive flurry kept the Intercontinental Champion off-balance. There’s your match for Money in the Bank, or – if they want to stretch it out – SummerSlam.

Good stuff all around, and it provided fans with a solid wrestling match to close out the show.
