5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (29 July - Results & Review)
3. Shark. Jumped.
During the past two years, WWE has done something incredible that has changed how their product is viewed critically: They’ve earned the right for people to give them the benefit of the doubt and let things play out.
In years past, there was absolutely no faith that WWE had any semblance of long-term planning, or that a “bad week” actually would feed into longer storyline developments. Now, however, that faith has been rewarded on several occasions.
However, it’s hard to give a pass to the ongoing melodrama with Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan, as she descended Monday night into the crazy, jealous girl burning photos and clothing as she lamented being rejected by Dominik Mysterio. It was over-the-top and ridiculous.
The very simple argument in support of this scene is that Liv is playing here and it’s all part of a long con to lure Rhea Ripley into a false sense of security that Domnik is back with her and Morgan has lost it. But ask yourself: Would WWE do this same setup with a male world champion and have him play the crazy, jilted lover heading into a major PLE title defense?
Of course not. This has devolved into a bad soap opera angle that would work best as a midcard sideshow, not the top female feud on the brand. Things might snap back most of the way with a solid reveal at SummerSlam, but they’ve lost the thread here.
