5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE Raw (29 July - Results & Review)

3. A Tasty Sampling

WWE Raw Gunther Finn Balor
WWE

The realization that Finn Balor and Gunther had never met in a one-on-one match before Monday night quickly gave way to the reality that we were only getting this match as part of the World Heavyweight Championship feud and ongoing Judgment Day drama, not a true matchup between two well-traveled veterans.

Still, Raw’s main event was a lot of fun and gave fans enough of a taste of what’s possible between them that a proper match with a proper build should be put on the backburner and heated up in the near-future. Despite both being heels, Balor and Gunther turned in a classic big man versus little man battle, with Finn countering some of the Ring General’s big shots and standing toe-to-toe with him.

Gunther is on a march towards SummerSlam, so winning clean was a pretty obvious result here. That doesn’t discount the effort, while leaving the door open to a rematch with some stakes involved.
