5 Ups & 5 Downs From WWE WrestleMania Raw (27 March - Review)

4. Newsflash: Theory’s A Selfish Jerk

Austin Theory
WWE

If Austin Theory cut an in-ring promo and no one was there to boo him, was it still boring?

Theory delivered his final message to John Cena during Raw Monday night via a promo he recorded while the arena was empty, doing it apparently to prove a point that he doesn’t compete for the fans, or for the kid who emulates him, but for himself. You see, Cena competes for the fans, to entertain them, but Theory’s a bad guy, so he’s only out to enrich himself.

As a promo, this wasn’t bad, but it was just more of the same, sans booing. It wasn’t entertaining, poignant or powerful. It was just more recited lines from the United States Champion, rather than anything heartfelt and career-defining.

You’d think a guy headed into a Mania match against Cena would be going all-out with his best material, but this just feels like someone from central casting reading the lines given to him as perfectly as he can and hoping that lands him the part.
