5 Ups & 6 Downs From AEW Dynamite (25 Aug)

2. Velvet Falls To Hayter

Yes, Red Velvet botched a standing Moonsault against Jamie Hayter.

No, it doesn't matter.

Why? Because they worked it into the finish. Rather than dithering and letting it ruin the match's flow, the wrestlers were smart enough to adapt. Velvet landed on her head, sold it as if she was hurt, so Jamie used the opportunity to kick her *ss and win the match. The babyface made an error and was cruelly punished by the heel. That's believable, effective, and totally fine - don't let any bad faith Twitter account tell you otherwise.

And the match prior to that was 100% effective as well. Hayter looked great in her first AEW match in two years, battering Velvet inside the ring and mocking her throughout, counting a 10 with the referee at one point. She has bags of personality and her opponent was her usual fiery self, even if Velvet must now be cycled down somewhat, given her negative reactions opposite the universally beloved Britt Baker.

Botches are bad, always, but they need not wreck a match. This was proof of that. Hayter and Velvet did a good job here.
