5 Ups & 6 Downs From AEW Dynamite (25 Aug)

4. Varsity Blonds Succumb To Inexperience

While perhaps on the lower end of the "good" Lucha Brothers match spectrum, last night's tournament bout with the Varsity Blonds told the right story and was satisfying enough to finish on the positive side of the ledger.

The experience gulf was key here. Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison squandered several moments of control by getting too caught up in the moment and playing to the crowd. There were multiple instances where they taunted when they should have capitalised, giving Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero Miedo avenues back into it, which played in the finish as well.

Pillman Jr. ended up being sandwiched between two thrust kicks before falling to an assisted package piledriver. While the Blonds fought hard, losing their focus cost them the bout.

Elevated by another great Fenix performance, this had the right outcome, with Lucha Brothers vs. Jurassic Express sure to pop on Rampage.
