5 Ups & 6 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Apr 7)

3. Trope Gets In Tay's Way

Tay Conti -1
AEW

Tay Conti vs. The Bunny was a fine, well-worked television match in which the former Allie played a good heel foil for the rising Conti, whose work looks increasingly stiff and explosive. The Brazilian vs. Hikaru Shida is now a must-book after Conti's three consecutive weeks at the top of the rankings.

The problem with the match had nothing to do with the competitors, but trope repetition.

This was Dynamite's third match with heel interference and distraction spots. Here, we got Matt Hardy hopping onto the apron, and while this wasn't the night's most destructive moment, we'd already seen similar in Drake vs. Allin and Page vs. Caster. That's excessive, and should be cut back on if AEW is to maintain its reputation as the clean finish promotion.
