5 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE WrestleMania 38 (Night 2)

4. Bobby Lashley Beats Stumbling Omos

If nothing else, Bobby Lashley's victory over Omos was an effective first workout for this new, babyface 'All Mighty.'

Lashley was over huge. Helped by a great new ring entrance, he established the simple story of going for a suplex on the much larger man early on, then paid it off to a great reception towards the finish. That suplex preceded the match's second spear (to Omos' back, with the giant clearly out of position), then the third, which secured the pinfall.

Omos ate his first singles defeat after entering another stodgy performance. While an inhumanly strong man himself, Lashley was the underdog here, yet his work looked like it was being executed with more grace and less exertion than Omos, which shouldn't be the case. The giant hossing his opponent around needs to look effortless. The underdog needs to struggle. That wasn't the case here, as Omos struggled against beefier opposition than usual, continuing to fall short when it comes to conveying dominance, presence, and (somehow) size.

What happens next with AJ Styles' former tag team partner is unclear, given his performances since splitting from the ring veteran. A complimentary tag wrestler when utilised sparingly, he passes Vince McMahon's famous airport test on size alone, but it all goes away when the bell rings. This had never been starker than it was last night.
