5 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE WrestleMania Backlash 2022
1. Call Us When Roman Shows ANY Weakness
No one is going to argue that Roman Reigns should have eaten a pinfall himself in a meaningless six-man tag match at WrestleMania Backlash, even though he theoretically could have taken a Claymore and been pinned to set up a title feud.
But for the Bloodline to win Sunday’s main event outright was just yet another episode of the Samoans rule everything, leading you to roll your eyes at the TV. Reigns has not been on the losing side of a match (excluding two DQs) since returning to WWE in August 2020. That includes singles, tags and six-man tag matches.
Think about that: Roman has been literally unbeatable. His last pinfall loss came in December 2019. How are you supposed to get some shine against a guy who never loses and whose faction never loses when he’s involved.
This was such an easy booking decision: Have Drew McIntyre (Reigns’ presumed next challenger) pick up the pinfall victory over one of the Usos, maybe knocking Roman to the floor in the process of running wild. Drew embarrassing the Bloodline on PLE would be enough to enrage Reigns and set up their title feud.
But no, the Bloodline stands tall. Again. Because that’s what we always do, even in meaningless six-man tag matches.
