5 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Raw (Jan 16 - Review)

2. Dying A Slow, Painful Death

It’s hard to watch two wrestlers who are great at their craft just sent out there with abysmal material that they have to slog through.

But that’s what we had to suffer through with Becky Lynch and Bayley on Raw, as they delivered a god-awful promo segment. Becky sucking up to the fans was fine, but it all felt pretty forced. Then she called out Bayley, who came out and declared that her name was not “Karen,” triggering a weird bit with Bayley naming everyone at ringside and a discussion about whether the Role Model knew what the term “Karen” meant.

The meat of the segment wasn’t any better though. Apparently, Bayley is still resentful that Becks and the other Horsewomen were called up to the main roster in 2015 and left her behind, taking her spot on Raw and at WrestleMania (nevermind that Bayley herself is a multi-time world champion and competed at Mania several times).

Lynch’s rundown of how she changed the game despite originally being called up as “just another warm body” was great as usual, but that’s because that’s her real story. Bayley doing her high-pitch heel laugh, however, just killed it.

Sorry to fans of both women (this writer is one of them), but this was horrible. The steel cage match next week has the potential to be great, but the road to get there has been bumpy as hell.
