5 Ups & 7 Downs From WWE Survivor Series 2020
3. Tag Team Gold
Heading into Survivor Series, the one champions versus champions match that really held some significance was New Day versus Street Profits, a bout that could be seen as old guard versus new guard, a possible passing of the torch.
Or as Angelo Dawkins put it, the Profits weren’t looking for New Day to pass the torch; they were going to take it.
The two teams had a pretty good match, pulling out all the stops with near-falls and electric moves. New Day worked over Montez Ford’s midsection, which saved the duo later when Ford hit a Cash Out, but he was unable to grab a quick pin because he hurt himself. Kofi Kingston hit three Boom Drops to drive home a point, but Ford later hit his own Trouble in Paradise.
The match really was about showcasing a more serious, competitive side of the Profits, who have shown the ability to really deliver in the ring, but they’ve often been treated as hype men and lighthearted, fun guys rather than a serious tag team.
But the Street Profits’ win solidified that view that Dawkins and Ford have the chops to be a dominant tag team. Well done.
