5 Ups & 8 Downs From WWE Raw (June 27)

2. Ford’s Charisma Shines Through

We took a swipe earlier at the redundancy and repetitiveness of pitting tag wrestlers who are facing each other in a few weeks in a series of singles bouts against each other, but that doesn’t mean that there can’t be a glimmer of a good thing that comes out of one of them.

Montez Ford has been a guy many have pegged as a future singles star. He has the athletic ability, promo skills and natural charisma that will serve him well on his own. Monday night, we got to see a little of the former and a whole lot of the latter.

Ford wrestled Jey Uso in a pretty decent singles bout, but it was Montez’s antics throughout that we want to call attention to. He yelped, called out to the crowd, barked at both Usos, danced, gestured, and even stole a fan’s hat after a dive to the floor. All of it was engaging and made it difficult to take your eyes off him. Mix in his natural ability in the ring and you’ve got a guy you can’t help but watch when he’s wrestling. Even if the match is just a 2-1/2 star TV contest, if he’s fired up like that, it keeps your attention.

If this is a glimpse into what he could bring as a singles star, we could be in for a treat.
