5 Ups & 8 Downs From WWE Raw (June 27)
6. Three Singles To Build To Tag Bout
The content churn that is WWE programming means that we get repeated matches between future rivals ahead of a PLE bout that only serve the purpose of “building momentum.” The problem is, by the time the big PLE match arrives, it’s no longer special.
Case in point, the Street Profits have been set to face the Usos for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship for a few weeks now, but two weeks ago, we had Montez Ford versus Jimmy Uso. Then last week, it was Angelo Dawkins versus Jey Uso. Then on Monday night, we got the losers of those two meaningless bouts, Montez and Jey, facing off in a match where the winner would pick the stipulation for the tag title match.
We got two completely pointless singles bouts, presumably to fill out a three-hour Raw, and then finally got a third singles bout that carried actual stakes. As this article seems to demonstrate over and over, that is just such a WWE thing.
