5 Ups & 8 Downs From WWE Raw (March 1)

2. Devaluing The Tag Titles

Pop quiz: Why should any of us care at all about titles in WWE when it’s clear that WWE itself doesn’t care about them? It’s obvious they’re just props – well, they are props, but the company often treats them like the ring bell or the steps.

The Raw Tag Team Championship in particular took a nose dive on Monday night, as the Hurt Business, now no longer feuding with each other, got thrust into defending their titles against Braun Strowman… and Adam Pearce. Yup.

The disgusted look from Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin could have been real, because it was such a joke to pull this stunt. And then worse, Braun rag-dolled the tag champs around like they were total jobbers, beating them to the point where he could have pinned them with one finger, but because of shenanigans, Pearce got into the match and got rolled up by Benjamin.

So not only are the Raw tag champs jobbers who got brutalized, they held onto their titles in the most banana peel way. But next month, we’ll have a tag title match at WrestleMania 37 where the announcers will tell us about the prestigious tag team championship.
