5 Ups & 8 Downs From WWE Raw (May 3)
2. Everyone’s Horrible
Remember watching WWF/E as a child and how so many superstars felt larger than life? Your favorite wrestlers went out and won matches left and right, seemed invincible, and then when behemoths collided, it was a reason to tune in.
Today, who besides a very select few are larger than life? Hell, who besides a select few even could be characterized as winners? How are fans today supposed to take the product seriously when people just go out and lose constantly, only to suddenly and randomly get heated up for a couple of weeks… and then start losing again randomly?
Cedric Alexander & Shelton Benjamin have gone from tag champs in a power stable to fractured team that couldn’t buy a win, losing to perennial losers Lucha House Party. Dana Brooke and Mandy Rose are such losers that the only way they can get one up on Charlotte Flair is for Rose to jump her after Brooke has lost. Humberto Carrillo is a perpetual loser who hasn’t won anything in forever.
Elias beat former WWE Champion Kofi Kingston a few weeks back and then went right back to losing spectacularly. Angel Garza has (as Drew Gulak noted) a terrible won/loss record both in the ring and with women. Lana & Naomi lose a lot, until the need to earn a tag title match, so they win one, only to then immediately lose… against a team that loses quite a bit themselves and can barely get along.
Why should we root for or get behind any of these wrestlers?
