Last week, WWE wrapped up the opening round of the inaugural Cruiserweight Classic, finishing it off with an incredible match between tag team partners Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa. The two tore the house down and raised the bar for the second round, which got underway Wednesday.

And then Wednesday’s CWC took up that gauntlet and smacked last week’s episode. The second round kicked off with two matches, but they were doozies, with Gran Metalik tangling with Tajiri and Cedric Alexander challenging Kota Ibushi. We got to see four guys just go out there without any storyline, without any backstage angle to put over, without any stupid practical joke being played, and just wrestle. It was incredible.

And beyond the joy at watching two outstanding wrestling matches, we also got to listen to the outstanding commentary of Mauro Ranallo and Daniel Bryan, two guys who could conceivably be paired up on SmackDown tomorrow and no one would argue with it, except maybe JBL. It’s readily apparent that both men are having fun calling the action each week, and it shows. Here’s hoping they get to continue doing just that, and that WWE doesn’t suddenly decide to over-produce the CWC.

With that said, let’s take a look at what moonsaulted to victory and what splashed down into an empty pool…
