If this tournament’s first five episodes have taught us anything, it’s that Daniel Bryan is being wasted as SmackDown Live’s general manager. That’s not to say that he’s bad at the gig; it’s to say that Bryan is outstanding as a color commentator for the Cruiserweight Classic.

Granted, trying to get over storylines and dealing with Vince McMahon yelling in your ear might hamper Daniel, but on the CWC, he has been on fire. Wednesday night, he was in pure fanboy mode, yelling and reacting to everything as if he was a 16-year-old. It was glorious to hear him geek over Kota Ibushi’s kicks and talk about his newfound crush on Cedric Alexander.

Maybe Bryan wouldn’t last as a SmackDown or Raw commentator, but WWE would do well to keep him in mind for future events like this. He certainly has the chops for it.
