5 Ups And 2 Downs From WWE Mae Young Classic (Sept 5)
1. Throttling Down
Tegan Nox was one of the favorites coming into this year’s Mae Young Classic after missing out on last year’s inaugural tournament, and there isn’t much doubt that she deserves that title.
However, her performance in the opening round of the tournament was a bit of a disappointment. Nox had a perfectly serviceable match against Zatara, but it didn’t really stand out, and it was overshadowed by a couple of the other matches on the program.
There’s a very real chance that Nox was playing it close to the vest in the first round – perhaps at the agents’ direction – in anticipation of opening up the throttle in subsequent rounds. But for the first match of the tournament, it was fine, but nothing memorable.
But when the worst criticism you can lodge is that a match was merely “OK,” that should tell you that things were pretty damn good overall.
