For obvious reasons, there was no appearance from Roman Reigns on this week's SmackDown. Indeed, due to suspension Reigns will be missing for the entire build to a bumper Triple Threat bout between former members of The Shield at Battleground. Even so, it looks like the match is still on.

Both Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins were present on the show, and they were used in encouraging fashion. Instead of simply having the pair square off, an interesting twist was put on their inevitable confrontation. Sami Zayn was involved in the situation, gaining somewhat of a rub from working with the main event crew.

Segments revolving around that trio were entirely positive, but it wasn't all rosy on this week's show. Some 50/50 booking was used, rendering a pay-per-view win completely meaningless, and one match in particular was woefully short.

There's a sense that WWE are killing time before the brand extension hits home, but there was still enough entertainment on offer to maintain interest on SmackDown.

Let's look at the main 'ups' and 'downs' from this week's program...
