5 Ups And 3 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (May 19)

2. Baron Corbin's Promo Felt Unnecessary

Baron Corbin has something in common with Roman Reigns, his talking should be kept to a minimum. A rugged, foreboding looking performer, Corbin's chief strength isn't in selling matches over the microphone, it's being a dirty fighter and doing anything to physically dominate his opponent.

After Dolph Ziggler had beaten Sheamus on SmackDown, Baron emerged to cut a short speech on Dolph. This was designed to further hype the No Disqualification bout the pair will contest at Extreme Rules, but it felt a tad unnecessary. There was a formulaic feel to the promo.

A better way to sell the viciousness of Corbin would have been to have him attack Ziggler when it looked like Dolph might have the upper hand on Sheamus. Not only would this have kept the Irishmen from randomly losing, but it'd also sell the story that Corbin never wants to see his rival succeed.
