5 Ups And 3 Downs From UFC 246

3. Upset Of The Year?

Holy crap! If there was one bout on this card that seemed like a sure thing, it was the women's flyweight match-up between talented hot prospect, Maycee Barber, and women's MMA journey woman, Roxanne Modafferi. The oddsmakers pegged Modaferri as the biggest underdog of the night, but she spoiled their predictions by absolutely battering Barber.

Modaferri showed much improved boxing skills, startling the 21-year old with her volume. Eventually she got the fight to the floor, where she showed how good she was during the grappling exchanges. The second round was the most decisive, as Modaferri caught Barber with jab, which caused her to move backwards awkwardly and damage her knee.

From there on out, the fight was all about The Happy Warrior delivering devastating punishment on the feet and the ground. She even sliced open Barber's head from an vicious elbow from mount, creating the sort of gash that wouldn't have looked out of place in a horror movie. It was an exceptional performance from the veteran and one that proves that, despite her many years in the sport, Modaferri is still improving significantly.
