5 Ups And 3 Downs From UFC 246

2. Ferreira's Rise

Brazilian lightweight, Carlos Diego Ferreira, has been quietly building an impressive run inside the UFC's lightweight division, but UFC 246 was the moment that he truly announced himself as serious threat at 155lb after defeating Anthony Pettis in thrilling fashion.

Ferreira didn't give the former champion an opportunity to throw anything significant, suffocating him from the very beginning. The 35-year old was relentless in his pursuit of the takedown, constantly taking Pettis down and attacking his back.

Despite Pettis being an exceptionally dynamic grappler in his own right, he had absolutely nothing for Ferreira jiu-jitsu as he took multiple advantageous positions. Eventually the former champ was overwhelmed by Ferreira's pressure and was caught in a rather nasty neck crank submission along the cage. The UFC's lightweight division is arguably the most dangerous out of all the weight classes and it just got a bit more scary with Ferreira entering the top-15 rankings.
