5 Ups And 3 Downs From WWE NXT New Year's Evil (Jan 4)
3. Next Week's Main Event Is Looking Phenomenal
Fresh off of controversially being utterly bulldozed by his former pal Omos on Monday Night Raw, AJ Styles rocked up to the CWC to seemingly take a moment to remember why he actually loves this crazy thing called wrestling. Clearly relishing every moment of being serenaded by an NXT crowd that weren't lacking in passion towards the former WWE Champion, it makes a nice change to see a main roster and all-round wrestling superstar actually get to enjoy a moment of respect from those who've supported them through thick and thin.
Before long, though, all this talk of passion transitioned nicely into the arrival of the person aiming to crap all over said dedication to the product as Grayson Waller strutted out dressed like a discount Rock to verbally berate his recent sparring partner. A paint-by-numbers bout of squabbling over wanting to put their money where their mouth is followed before Waller backed out of the whole idea to set up a mouth-watering main event on next week's 2.0.
It's definitely the right call to have this colliding of the generations come on the back of a week's worth a build, even if the sight of Styles in full gear felt like a cruel tease of some actual Phenomenal action last night. Aside from a little back-and-forth scrap, though, which still acted as a neat prelude to what will undoubtedly be a fun show-closer next week, fans were made to wait for the apparent conclusion to this unexpected detour of recent weeks.
Will Styles fall to his second WWE pet project in as many weeks? Or is Grayson set to feel the Phenomenal effect? That's one way to get eyes on your questionable product, I suppose.
