5 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (July 29)

Downs...

4. Feuding Over A Bad Advert

Proof, if proof be needed, that the NXT Creative's love affair with Dana Brooke has come to an end, last night's episode didn't just see her lose to Charlotte in fairly quick fashion, but it was revealed that the driving force behind Brooke's hatred for her was ... The TapOut commercial. Hey, anybody remember when Booker T and Edge fought over a shampoo commercial at Wrestlemania? Yes, it turns out that the Total Diva (why would she call herself that on a show chiefly watched by the hardcore wrestling fan, when the show Total Divas is such a beacon of mainstream 'sports-entertainment' tat?) was jealous of Charlotte being featured in a terrible advert with editing so shuddery that it's genuinely headache-inducing. Fighting for a chance at the title, fighting for revenge, fighting for an increased payday, all of these make sense. It's just seems demeaning and petty to fight for something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXIFuy9axgw Not every feud can be for a title, but what a superstar chooses to fight for is important because it subtly informs the audience as to their status in the company. A meaningless, petty feud can cement someone as a low-level star in the minds of the crowd.
