5 Ups And 4 Downs From Last Night's WWE NXT (July 29)

3. A Neutered Rhyno

And so can constant losses. Rhyno's initial run in NXT was effective. He suffered his first major loss putting over Sami Zayn and made him look strong as hell going into his feud with Kevin Owens. Since then Rhyno has lost to Baron Corbin, Finn Balor and now he's walking into a match next with Samoa Joe that has doom written all over it. Last night, NXT attempted to rectify how predictable this matchup was by airing a slick video package about how dangerous Rhyno can be, but you can't plaster over these cracks. Simply put, Rhyno has been exposed for what he is, a veteran brought to put over younger stars. While he's proved himself more than willing to do business, Rhyno cannot do this forever. The law of diminishing returns dictates that the rub to be gained from defeating him lessens each time it occurs. Once pinning a veteran becomes a formality, as it appears for next week's match against Samoa Joe, then the purpose of such matches is defeated. Don't get wrong, it will still be a relief to see Joe achieve something other than a squash victory over a nameless jobber, but after his inevitable loss, perhaps it's time to release Rhyno back into the wild.
