5 Ups And 6 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (September 24)
4. Dropping Weight
A while back, this column criticized WWE for singling Nia Jax out in announcing her weight (282 pounds) when introducing her. All other women wrestlers simply had their hometowns announced.
So it’s worth noting that JoJo has dropped the weight announcement since Jax returned to action. It might have something to do with Nia being up for a People’s Choice Award and receiving accolades for body image, meaning WWE pointing out her weight when no other woman had their weight called out was hypocritical. Whatever the case, it was a smart move on the company’s part.
As a frame of reference, it should be noted that Michael Cole has referred to the weights of some competitors in the Mae Young Classic in the course of the match, especially the David/Goliath bouts. So WWE isn’t totally shying away from mentioning weight for female wrestlers. Just don’t do it only for the larger women, that’s all.
