5 Ups And 6 Downs From WWE Fastlane 2018

4. Setting The Stage

In the “Downs” column, we noted how bad it was that SmackDown walked into Fastlane with only one wrestler with a guaranteed slot at WrestleMania, and only one match announced.

While there wasn’t a match announced, it looked pretty obvious that WWE set the stage for a tripe threat for the United States Championship Sunday night. Randy Orton beat Bobby Roode for the title, and then Jinder Mahal came down to confront the new champ. It didn’t go well for him, with Rood standing tall at the end.

The match itself was really slow going, but it picked up a bit in the latter half, with Orton and Roode trading offense and fighting over finishing moves. In the end, it was the “RKO outta nowhere” giving Orton the only singles title he hasn’t won in WWE.

As a triple threat, this could actually be an interesting bout. As long as they don’t project maggots and worms onto the mat, it’ll be an improvement for Orton.
