5 Ups And 7 Downs From Last Night's WWE Raw (April 20th)

5. One Move Of Doom

John Cena€™s reign as United States Champion is an interesting experiment. Fans often complain that he€™s constantly in the world title picture, so WWE has removed him from that. They complain that the secondary titles don€™t have enough prestige, so WWE puts the U.S. title on him and have him defend it weekly in matches where he gives his opponents a ton of offense. So what€™s the problem with all this, other than the fact that some people just hate John Cena? Monday night spotlighted a problem, as a disgruntled Kane answered Cena€™s open challenge. The corporate monster proceeded to beat Cena from pillar to post for the vast majority of the match. Toward the end, Kane hit a chokeslam €“ and Cena kicked out. Kane called for the Tombstone Piledriver, which Cena immediately reversed to the Attitude Adjustment for the win. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzdpsEGwDWI It€™s one thing to paint it as Cena getting lucky to squeeze out a victory, but taking a beating, kicking out of your opponent€™s finisher and then defeating him with one move is not helping anyone. It makes Kane (who has suddenly become 20 times more interesting than he€™s ever been in the past 18 months) look even more impotent in the ring. No one is going to suddenly buy Cena as a plucky underdog who lucked out, so just stick with competitive matches that he wins because he€™s the better wrestler.
