2. New Heel Tactic: Not Defending Titles

Someone on the writing staff woke up Monday morning and realized that the IIconics have not defended the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship in more than two months and came up with a brilliant idea: Make that the storyline.

Until Monday, Peyton Royce & Billie Kay had competed in just three main show tag matches since WrestleMania 35, winning only their sole title defense against two jobbers on the Raw after Mania. To say they’ve tanked the new titles in record time would be an understatement.

So Monday, they came out and made light of the situation and said that they had scoured the Earth for competition and struck on two more jobbers, whom they defeated in seconds Monday night. The announcers made sure to mock them and talk about the lack of challengers stepping up, because that’s what stokes interest.

This attempt to retcon the IIconics’ lack of competing is pretty desperate. It might have worked if they had beaten a few jobbers and actively ducked more worthy opponents, but we haven’t really gotten that. This is just poor, and WWE needs to get the titles off them pronto.
