5 Ups And 7 Downs From WWE Backlash 2020

2. There Are No Winners

Who came out of the WWE Universal Championship match looking strong?

Answer: No one.

Miz & John Morrison faced Braun Strowman in a handicap match, which led to a bizarre setup with the champ selling for large portions of the match, even looking to be on the verge of losing his title to JoMo, only for Miz to break up a pinfall attempt because the person who picked up the pin would become champ. So predictable.

A few short minutes later, Braun powerslammed Morrison for the win. But Strowman didn’t look like a strong champ at all here, selling a ton and then being saved by heel dissension. And then Miz & Morrison looked like goofs as they fell pretty easily after the pinfall breakup.

You could add a gripe here about Morrison being wasted since his return, coming back to WWE after a successful run in the indy scene, only to be thrust back into a tag team with Miz like it was 2008 again. Thank God they didn’t reform 3MB when Drew McIntyre got promoted to the main roster a couple years ago.
