5 Ups And 7 Downs From WWE Backlash 2020
3. Canned Heat
When Byron Saxton warned us that the Greatest Wrestling Match Ever was going to be enhanced for our viewing experience with “unique camera angles” and “amplified audio,” this writer was immediately skeptical.
Sure enough, that meant we got camera angles that could only exist if a cameraman was in the ring laying underneath Edge and Randy Orton during a lockup, or kneeling over them after a superplex.
But it was the canned audio of crowd noise that was by far the most offensive. We’ve been living with the Performance Center recruits cheering and booing as the live “audience” for a couple weeks now. While not great, it’s provided at least some background noise during matches. WWE decided to up the ante Sunday night, with the effects so obviously bad that it was distracting at several points. The piped-in cheers and jeers were blatant and overdone.
Oh, and using old audio from the deceased Howard Finkel? They might have had good intentions, but it just didn’t come off all that well.
