5 Ups And 7 Downs From WWE TLC 2020

2. Hurt Business Finally Captures Tag Gold

Sunday night should have been a banner night for the Hurt Business.

Shelton Benjamin & Cedric Alexander captured the Raw Tag Team Championship at TLC by toppling one of the best tag teams of the past decade, the New Day, in a strong, competitive match. New Day was on fire to start, but the Hurt Business kept pace, finally taking out Xavier Woods before managing to drop Kofi Kingston for the titles.

However, this comes after numerous title matches – won by New Day – and then a series of singles bouts – which Alexander won – to give Hurt Business another tag title opportunity. It was a reverse storytelling method that kind of diminishes this victory. Much like Randy Orton’s WWE Championship win after losing two title matches, this win is significant for the winners, but it doesn’t work in the context of an actual story.

This win just makes you wish the monkeys writing the script could actually map stuff out further than one week at a time, because this could have been special, not just good.
