If you squint really hard at Raw, there are some bright spots on the show: Seth Rollins is a top performer. Dean Ambrose has the potential to run wild as a heel. Finn Balor finally has a purpose as a Baron Corbin antagonist. Elias is evolving as a babyface. Drew McIntyre is a future world champion.

But we’re also seeing WWE’s creativity going bankrupt. Even after admitting the stupidity of recent episodes, Raw on Monday night still showed some of the same shortcomings: the Ambrose/Rollins rivalry, which should be the hottest feud on Raw, was downplayed to a brief staredown. The Raw Women’s Championship feud is lacking. Matches on Monday were more about angle advancement, yet still fell short.

It could be that we’re entering the end of the year, and WWE tends to throttle back on things this time on the calendar, ramping back up after New Year’s in preparation for the Royal Rumble. But it’s clear that things needs to change with how Raw is presented.

The writers have acknowledged this via Rollins’ promo on Monday night. Now they need to act on it.

He fortunately became a fan in time for WrestleMania III and came back as a fan after a long high school hiatus before WM XIV. Monday nights in the Carlson household are reserved for viewing Raw -- for better or worse.
