5 Ups And 9 Downs From WWE Hell In A Cell 2019
3. Corbin Continues To Flounder
Sorry to all the King Corbin fans out there, but this guy is not improving.
His promos are still boring as hell, his matches are dull, and he can’t sustain a push for more than two weeks. He’s a midcard heel a couple steps below the secondary title level. If WWE reactivated the European Championship, he might be suitable for that title.
Sunday, all of this was on display. Corbin cut a pre-match promo that was groan-inducing. You would think after sharing the ring with The Rock on SmackDown, he would have picked up a couple pointers on how to deliver a convincing promo, but all it did was make you wish his mic would cut out.
Then the match itself was just a dull bout, with fans chanting “boring” at a couple points. Again, you’d think Corbin would have picked a couple things up wrestling so many different superstars, but it’s really the same old, same old.
Worse, the new WWE king lost the match, and then “got his heat back” afterward backstage. Either push the man or don’t. If you like him so much, teach him to cut a decent promo, vary his move set and then let him accrue a couple wins in a row. You have him win a “prestigious” tournament and then have him go 50/50 in his first feud afterward.
There are a few things WWE could do to improve King Corbin (a manager in the Genius vein making royal decrees, for example), but figuring out if you’re going to push him or not would help.
