5 Ups And 9 Downs From WWE Super Showdown 2019

Ups...

5. Explaining The Demon

WWE Super Showdown 2019 Finn Balor Andrade

When WWE announced that Finn Balor was defending his Intercontinental Championship as The Demon, it generated an eyeroll from this writer. Typically, the Demon character comes out when it’s necessary, maybe at the end of a rivalry for an extra oomph.

While retconning typically gets negative marks, we’ll give a tacit “up” to the announce team for really going out of their way to make the Demon’s appearance part of the story of the match. They noted that Andrade had gotten the better of Balor for several weeks straight (most of which came after the Demon was announced for the match), and then Finn kicked out of the Hammerlock DDT, which has been Andrade’s go-to finisher.

It obviously would have been better if they had held back the announcement of the Demon character until the last minute to give it linear storytelling, but in this day and age, WWE even just going back and giving a reason like this merits positive marks.
