5 Valets Who Overshadowed Their Wrestlers (& 5 Who Complemented Them)
6. Complemented: Marlena With Goldust
Goldust and Marlena were one of the most intriguing duos of the Attitude Era.
Marlena is a classic example of an effective character that left something to the imagination. Her quiet demeanor and seemingly indifferent attitude made fans want to know more about her. The character was also sexy, without being overly gratuitous, which was a rare thing during that period.
The laid back, cigar-smoking valet served as an excellent counterbalance to Goldust's bizarre over-the-top antics. Marlena certainly made her presence felt, but it was clear that Goldust was the star of the show. The two had excellent chemistry, which may have been due to the fact that they were actually married at the time.
Of course, the Brian Pillman love triangle storyline would end up ruining the character, but in her prime, Marlena was the best work of Terri Runnels' career.
If there is ever book published on effective valets, Goldust and Marlena warrant a lengthy chapter.
