5 Ways AEW Has Changed Professional Wrestling For The Better

4. Tag Team Wrestling

It’s no secret that Vince McMahon doesn’t see value in the tag team division or the titles.

Remember when the tag titles changed hands due to the colour of their straps? It almost feels like a WWE tag team nowadays is a litmus test for a new singles star or a way to just lump two wasted mid carders together.

In the early 00’s, with the likes of The Hardy Boyz, Edge & Christian and The Dudley Boyz, the WWE Tag Team Titles meant something. But now, in a company that has FIVE separate tag team championship belts, they couldn’t mean less.

Tag team wrestling can matter, and it can be thrilling. It’s not a wild statement to say that AEW’s tag team roster is the best in the world. At All Out, they put on a strong candidate for the Match of the Year when the Lucha Bros defeated The Young Bucks. Go back to 2020 and what was the match of the year? The Young Bucks vs. Hangman Page and Kenny Omega.

By presenting the AEW Tag Team Championships as one of the elite, pun intended, prizes in the world of professional wrestling, they have created a buzz around a division that for the past two decades in America, has seemed dead.
