5 Ways WWE Have Damaged Bray Wyatt

2. John Cena

At the beginning of 2014, the future looked bright for Bray Wyatt. He defeated Daniel Bryan at the Royal Rumble in a fantastic match, a match that put to bed any doubts over his in-ring abilities, and commenced a feud with John Cena heading towards WrestleMania. What could signify a bright future more than feuding with the top two good guys in the company?

Well, we all know how the Cena feud ended up. Cena defeated Wyatt at WrestleMania, and would go on to win the feud by burying Wyatt (literally, not in wrestling speak) in a Last Man Standing match. In between this, Wyatt pulled out a steel cage victory, but this was because of the interference of a spooky child.

The Cena feud was supposed to enhance Wyatt but allowing him to work with the number one guy in the company, but the entire thing rendered Bray toothless. Much like Rusev this year, a guaranteed main event player for the future has been damaged, possibly irreparably.

Many commentators often mention that Bray doesn't feel like a threat in-ring anymore, and that he rarely wins big matches. One look at his pay-per-view record shows quite the opposite. In singles matches at big events, he is currently 10-4 up, and those four losses came against Cena (twice), Chris Jericho and Undertaker. He has wins against Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Cena, Jericho and others.

What matters and rankles is the manner of the victories however. Rarely has Wyatt won without the assistance of his family or witchcraft. Of course, the advantage of being a cult leader is that you get some help now and then, but surely a cult leader must lead by example? Unless of course the story is that he can't, in which case I'll hold my hand up and admit defeat.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
