5 Ways WWE Is Outclassing The Competition Right Now
4. A Wide Array Of Gimmick Matches
It's always nice to see a new gimmick debut. Seeing an Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch in 2021 was a hell of a lot of fun, but looking at other promotions... do they really have their own signature gimmicks?
AEW's Casino Battle Royale format has been off the rails since its inception. New Japan Pro Wrestling very rarely bring out the big guns in terms of gimmick matches. A wacky stipulation here and there, but nothing to the extent of WWE.
WWE has numerous gimmick matches under their umbrella. The Elimination Chamber, Money In The Bank, Hell In A Cell and of course, the Royal Rumble. These stipulations have become a crucial part of the WWE product and often make for must watch programming.
Money In The Bank is a great concept. The looming threat over both rosters adds a sense of anxiety to the product. The Royal Rumble is probably the greatest match concept of all time. The pops, the surprises and the eventual winner are a string of great moments all heaped into one match.
While there have been bad versions of these matches, there's no denying that WWE is the king of match gimmicks.
