5 Ways WWE Will Be Great Again In 2013

3. Characters

damien sandow Go back two years and try and think of any superstar with a genuine character. It€™s hard isn€™t it and I€™m sure a lot of that has to do with the switch to a PG environment and once again, not knowing if they could pull off gimmicks without offending a mother in a small Texan backwater town. What we had were guys moving up the ranks who all had similar characters with very little to offer. Once again, guys like €˜Miz who was a generic heel, who was only different to, say, Wade Barrett because he said €œAwesome€. This portrayal of characters as if they were €œlegit€ ultimately made for uninteresting personas. Another excuse could be that WWE were trying to make instant stars by skipping the €œVolume turned up to 11€ stage where they would give someone a gimmick, no matter how stupid, and then start to trim the fat until it made sense and the character was established. Nowadays we have guys like Brodus Clay, Fandango and even Damien Sandow who are all a bit daft but, given time, make sense once we get to know them and some of the more €œin your face€ elements have been toned down. But it wasn€™t just new guys who lost face; John Cena became absolutely boring, Randy Orton lost his mojo and CM Punk only became the star he is today by standing up against such rubbish. Granted, Orton hasn€™t really changed much in the past two years but that€™s mainly because he doesn€™t know how to be a face. We can all thank the wrestling gods that up and down the card, we have talent that each brings something new to the table. Not to harp on Miz or Wade Barrett again but these guys either need a true hook, or be gone for good. I fear for them that once management realise we genuinely don€™t care about them, they€™ll realise that the WWE would be exactly the same place if they were no longer on payroll. But I digress, the roster is packed with entertaining characters and they will only get better. Keep it up character creation team!
