5. Tully Blanchard

Tully Blanchard was one of the most important professional wrestlers on the planet in the 1980s. Blanchard made his first strides with Jim Crockett in 1984, and quickly became an integral part of JCP's stories. Tully won a litany of championships during his Jim Crockett run, including three World Television Championships and one World Heavyweight Championship.

Blanchard was also an iconic member of the Four Horsemen, arguably the greatest faction in wrestling history. Tully was a clear number three at best in the group, but number three behind Ric Flair and Arn Anderson is nothing to shake one's stick at. Tully and Arn left for the WWF in 1988, but one year later Blanchard was gone.

Arn eventually came back to WCW, but Tully never made the full-time return. WCW offered Blanchard a return in 1993, but a dispute over pay (Blanchard was seriously low-balled) led to Paul Roma taking his place in the Four Horsemen. Blanchard did actually wrestle in WCW once more in 1994, brawling to a double disqualification with Terry Funk.

The Four Horsemen became a regular part of WCW Monday Nitro, but Tully Blanchard was nowhere to be seen.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
